Duran, CMDR/USPHSOctober 14, 1952 - June 30, 2013 HARRAH Anthony Louis "Doc" Duran, CMDR/USPHS, age 60, passed away Sunday, June 30, 2013, at his home in Harrah, OK. Tony was born on October 14, 1952 in Rawlings, WY. After being raised in Chacon, New Mexico, Tony joined the Navy and proudly served as a Medic attached to the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. Following his service in the Navy/Navy Reserves, he worked as a truck driver and diesel mechanic before continuing his education at the University of Central Oklahoma completing his Bachelor's Degree in Nursing in 1989. Tony was then commissioned as an Officer in the United States Public Health Services. Tony traveled the country providing care to American Indian people through his commission with Indian Health Services and later with Immigration and Naturalization Services. Ultimately, his final commission was with the United States Marshall's Service, as a Commander, Flight Nurse transporting Federal prisoners, `Con Air'. Tony's retirement was ideal. As a member of Vietnam Veteran's Motorcycle Club, he enjoyed buying/riding/selling Harley Davidsons, building trikes, restoring classic cars, fishing and traveling whenever the mood struck. He, his best motorcycle buddies, and Loretta traveled at will and enjoyed the open road together. Tony is survived by his wife Loretta; 4 children, Kara, Jennifer, Christopher and Anthony; 2 brothers, Ben Duran and wife Blanca, Tom Duran and wife Pam; 2 sisters, Christine Iziguirre and husband Jose, and Cathy Diaz; grandchildren, including Kara's baby Nylah, who was born just 10 days prior to his death; nieces; nephews; and many, many friends. However busy Tony was with his hobbies and toys, he was always the first person to lend a hand to his friends and family. We will miss him as the calm voice of reason and encouragement. He leaves behind a great emptiness in the many lives he touched. Services will be 2:00 pm Friday, July 5, 2013, at Hibbs Funeral Home with burial to follow at Elmwood Cemetery.
