JohnstonJul. 27, 1920 - Aug. 17, 2014 SHAWNEE Ret. Major Cecil Eldridge Johnston, 94, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed away Sunday, August 17, 2014, in a local nursing home.Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 21, 2014, at Wesley United Methodist Church with Kris Steele officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Walker Funeral Service. Cecil was born July 27, 1920 in Atoka, Oklahoma to William Arthur & Idaho Montana (Smith) Johnston. In 1939 he graduated from Earlsboro High School. In 1985 he graduated from the University of Maryland.Cecil was married to Inez D. (Jones) Johnston. She preceded him in death in 1977. He then married F. Louise (Slack-Roark) Johnston on October 3, 1979. He served with the United States Army during World War II, and was a Retired Major. Cecil was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church, the American Legion, VFW, DAV, 40 & 8, Masonic Lodge #107, York Rite, KYCH, McAlester Consistory, KCCH, Boy Scout Leader Troop 403, and had 28 Eagle Scouts (one of Cecil's most rewarding roles was as scout leader). He was on the Shawnee School Board for 9 years, served 2 separate terms on City Commission, 3 years as president of Shawnee Shrine Club, School Board President for 1 year, president of Pottawatomie County Historical Society, Diamond K Kiwanis, Lt. Governor for Texas/Oklahoma Dist. 21; delegate to Oklahoma United Methodist Conference, and was on the Workforce Oklahoma Board.He is survived by his wife: F. Louise Johnston; son: William C. Johnston & Gay; grandsons: Tyler W. Johnston & Patrick R. Johnston; daughter: Patricia I. Smith-Derk; grandson: Christopher W. Smith; son: Bert F. Roark & Elizabeth; granddaughter: Mikhayla Roark; grandsons: Matthew D. Roark and Truman D. Barrett; great-grandsons: Liam Roark & Truman D. Barrett, Jr.; son: Richard L. Roark & Peggy; grandson: Kenneth H. Roark; great-grandson: Canan Roark; grandson: Chad A. Roark & April; great-granddaughter: Tabitha Roark; daughter: Anita R. Roark & R. Frank Hudson; grandson: Trey Hudson & Cali; great-grandsons: Talyn S. Hudson & Noah R. Hudson; granddaughter: Beth White; great-granddaughters: Riley M. O'Dell & Hanna J. White; and brother: Chester I. Johnston.
