Henson June 21, 1924 - Jan 30, 2014 OKLAHOMA CITY Howard Wilson Henson, 89, of Oklahoma City, died on January 30, 2014. Born on June 21, 1924, in Mountanier, New Mexico, to William and Minnie Henson, the family later moved to Washington, Oklahoma. After graduating from high school, Howard married Pauline Townsend August 9, 1942, and they remained married for 70 years until her death on June 12, 2013. Howard served in the Army Air Corps 1943-1945, during which time he taught Airmen to fly bombers at Vance Air Force Base in Enid, Oklahoma. After owning a Ford dealership in Yukon, Oklahoma, Howard stayed active in the car business as a Service Manager at Fred Jones Ford and Jackie Cooper Lincoln in OKC for several years. Eventually, Howard and Pauline opened their own printing and advertising business and enjoyed much success from their hard work. As a lifelong Baptist, Howard attended and served as a Deacon at Britton Baptist Church; Village Baptist Church; and for the last several years, he was a proud member and Deacon at Quail Springs Baptist Church. Howard was also a founding member of the Village YMCA and a member of the Masonic Lodge in Washington, OK. Howard loved the cabin Pauline and he built in Red River, New Mexico, spending many wonderful vacations there with his children, grandchildren and too many friends to mention. He loved to garden and putter around on his acreage near Washington, where his cows were more like his pets, and family always looked forward to any produce he might bring home. His specialties were his Christmas presents because he made the best "Aunt Bill's" candy and "peanut brittle" ever, which his family enjoyed every year. Howard loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and watching sporting events on TV, especially the Oklahoma City Thunder basketball. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers and two sisters; and his wife, Pauline. Howard is survived by his son, Larry Henson and his wife Judy; two grandchildren, Jennifer Carsten and husband Jamie and Christopher Henson and wife Cassie; and five great-grandchildren, Zachary Henson, Ridley Carsten, Kellan Carsten, James Henson, and Nicholas Henson, all from Oklahoma City; brother-in-law, Charles Ray Townsend and wife Susan; nephew, Zachary and family; and nieces, Marla and Ron Dahl and Kerry and Jim Beard and their families. The family would especially like to thank his caregiver, Velta Zoeller. Viewing will be at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Home on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Funeral Services will be 2 p.m. on Monday, February 3, 2014, at Quail Springs Baptist Church, with interment to follow at the Washington Cemetery.
