Obituary Condolences

April 11, 1921 - July 26, 2013 MOORE Leroy Bailey went to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 26, 2013, at the age of 92. He was born on April 11, 1921, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, near the homes of both sets of grandparents, to Claud E. & Tennie D. Bailey. The family later moved to southeast Oklahoma City, and Leroy graduated in l940 from Foster High School. He married Eileene Liston in 1940, and together, they raised six children. In 1941, the family moved to the west coast for jobs in the shipbuilding industry, and soon after the Pearl Harbor bombing and the advent of World War II, Leroy joined the armed services, serving as a "Seabee," a member of the U.S. Navy's Construction Battalion Unit. After the war, he started as a carpenter apprentice, beginning his career as a carpenter, then construction foreman, and retiring as construction superintendent for commercial buildings. He was proud of his many completed projects throughout the states of Oklahoma and Texas. Leroy always enjoyed people and had a gift for making friends. If he ate somewhere twice, servers always knew him by name. He is remembered fondly by cousins and other extended family as well as his immediate family. He spent his retirement years fishing and working on projects in his garage and enjoying the grandchildren and great-grandchildren in his life. He is survived by his children: daughters, Claudette Eskola, Kathryn Bailey, Gail Finchum and husband John Oakes, and Rhayma Keith and husband Mike; and son, Roy and wife Carol. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eileene; son, Bill Bailey; grandson, Daron Finchum; and great-grandsons, Adam Finchum and Ryan Finchum. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be Sunday, 12-8 p.m., and on Monday, 4-8 p.m., at Vondel L. Smith and Son, South Western. Funeral Service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Fresh Start Community Church in Moore, OK.
