Obituary Condolences

October 20, 1964 - August 24, 2014 OKLAHOMA CITY Marco Alberto Paliotta, 49, passed from this life's journey on August 24, 2014. He was born in Queens, New York to Luigi and Franca (Viti) Paliotta. He attended the School of Italy in New York. When Marco was a teenager, his family returned to Italy where he completed high school at Liceo L. Murialdo and pursued a medical education graduating from the University of Rome "La Sapienza". Marco returned to the US for postgraduate medical training in general surgery and surgical critical care at Westchester Medical Center and cardiothoracic surgery at the Medical College of Georgia. Marco practiced adult cardiothoracic surgery in New Hampshire for four years before returning to fellowship training in pediatric congenital heart surgery at Emory and UCLA. He joined the faculty of the University of Oklahoma as assistant professor of congenital heart surgery at Children's Hospital. Marco derived great satisfaction from helping children born with cardiac anomalies and their families and has made a difference in the lives of many. He is preceded in death by his father, Luigi Paliotta, and survived by his mother, Franca Viti; his son, Federico Paliotta; and his sister and niece, Donatella Paliotta and Arianna Tiberti, all of Rome, Italy and his partner, Sharon Darrow of Oklahoma City. A memorial service to celebrate his life will be 7:00 PM Thursday, August 28, 2014, at Vondel L. Smith & Son Mortuary, 13125 N. MacArthur Blvd. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the or the OU Children's Hospital Foundation.
