BrucherDecember 7, 1930 - March 4, 2014 OKLAHOMA CITY Michael ("Mike") Edward Brucher, 83, of Oklahoma City, OK died March 4, 2014. Mike was born December 7, 1930 in Waterloo, IA. He was the eldest of four children born to Colonel Edward and Helen Brucher.Mike grew up in Waterloo but graduated from high school in the Philippines where his father was stationed. His father's Army career sent the family to post-World War II Tokyo, Japan as his father worked with General Douglas MacArthur in that country's rebuilding efforts. Mike started college in Japan while working as a courier for the General's office; however, his father's retirement brought the family back to the U.S.Mike met his future wife, Lois, at a pep rally in 1950 at the University of Northern Iowa. Mike transferred to and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science degree in political science and a law degree in 1957. Mike and Lois married in July, 1955 in Ft. Madison, IA.Directly out of law school, Mike started his 32 year career with Western Electric (subsequently AT&T) in Labor Relations, specializing in contract negotiations. Mike was working in Chicago and Lois was teaching school when they welcomed son, Mark in 1957. The young family was transferred to Oklahoma City in 1960 with the recent opening of Western Electric's new facility.In earlier years, the family would enjoy camping throughout the country. Retirement allowed Mike to commit over 10 years of dedicated service to the Stephen Ministry at St. Luke's. This ministry allowed Mike to listen and care for those facing crises and challenges in their lives. Mike also was an active member of the Upper Room Sunday School Class. He served his community in a variety of capacities including President of the PTA, Webelos scout leader, judge for the Oklahoma County Election Board, and past president of the Board of Directors of the Ronald McDonald House of Oklahoma City. Mike is best described in a few words - caring, honest and a man of integrity. His life was focused on his family, church and community. Mike always had a positive outlook, looking for the best in everyone.Mike is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Lois; son, Mark; twin brothers, James and John of Waterloo, IA; and several nephews and nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ann Linquist of Dallas, TX.A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 13, 2014 at 10:00 am at St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 222 NW 15th Street, Oklahoma City, OK 73103.
