She will forever be missed and loved by many family and friends. Billie was born on Aug. 2, 1930 to Ernest and Harriet Robinson Steelman at Cloud Chief, OK. second born of three children. Early in her life the family moved to Ca. and then later settled in Winfield, KS. She graduated from Winfield High School. She also lived in Topeka, KS for many years. She owned and operated the "Byrd's Coffee Tyme" Restaurant north of Topeka, KS. In 1978 the family moved to Moore, OK. She was an accomplished musician, playing many instruments, but most notably her beloved electric guitar. She loved to play and sing country and western and gospel music. She said "singing and playing an instrument was good for the soul". She loved her family dearly and looked forward to visits from her children and grandchildren during the holidays and other celebrations. She married J. Wayne Byrd on Nov. 3, 1962. He preceded her in death on Sept. 22, 2006. She is survived by her children, Norma Jean (Larry) Dies, Wichita, KS, Charles Daniel (Bev), Newalla, OK, Carolyn (John) Green, Topeka, KS, Ernest (Karen) Byrd, Norman, OK, and Joe (Debra) Byrd, Edmond, OK; a sister, Frankie Gassert, Derby, KS; and a brother, E.G. Steelman, Arkansas City, KS; and 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sat., Feb. 23, 2013, at the Sunset Memorial Park Cemetery Chapel. Memorials can be sent to your local humane society in her memory.
