October 15, 1932 - May 5, 2014 OKLAHOMA CITY Donald J. Gray, the only child of Leonard P. & Wyona G. Gray, was a lifetime resident of OKC, except for serving 2 years proudly and honorably in the U.S. Army, 716th Military Police Battalion, Fort Dix, N.J. during the Korean War. He graduated from Classen High School, OKC in 1951 & employed 1951 at Tinker Air Force Base, returning to Tinker as an apprentice Air Craft Mechanic after his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army in 1954, retiring on 12-31-87 as the Air Craft Production Branch Chief, Directorate of Maintenance, Tinker Ar Force Base. Don's primary concern was that every aircraft that left Tinker, after maintenance, was safe and mission ready, to get the pilots and their crew to their destinations and back safely. He always appreciated the loyalty and hard work of the people who worked with him and for him to make that possible. On October 11, 1952 (after the O.U.-Texas football game - O.U. won) he married Barbara Sue Chesher. They had two children, Gregory and Donna Sue, with whom they enjoyed boating, fishing, water skiing & swimming at Lake Eufaula and various Okla. lakes, finally settling at Lake Texoma in 1970, a lake home for family & friends where they have had many many happy times. Upon retirement, Don & Sue traveled to many exciting and wonderful places all over the U.S. and other countries with family or just each other, including OU football home & away games, or Don patiently taking Sue to OU Women's Basketball games, auto races, air shows, etc. We have lost a friend, a loving, kind, considerate, loyal, funny, selfless person. We will miss him so much. Don is preceded in death by his daughter, Donna Sue Gray, his parents and many Chesher brothers and sisters-in-law who were looked upon as siblings. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Sue, son, Gregory (Rickie), step-grandchildren, Chris (Tiena) Ward, Terry (Tiffany) Ward, Kim (Scott) Brown; 8 step-great grandchildren, Kristina, Dylan, Nicky, Justin, Jake, Kelly Ward and twins, Kyler & Keegan Brown & 2 great great grandchildren, Kaylin and Adian. Services will be held 12pm Saturday May 17 at the Putnam City Christian Church, 4215 N. Grove Ave., OKC. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Don's memory to Putnam City Christian Church or Lighthouse United Methodist Church, 4923 Alberta Creek Rd., Kingston, OK 73439 or a .
