Obituary Condolences

HaslettDec 19, 1919 - Oct 4, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Florence Haslett was born December 19, 1919, in Melby, Minnesota, to Otto and Hulda Fjellstrom Gilbertson. After high school, Florence attended Bethesda Nursing School, where she obtained her nursing degree. Florence was committed to her country and enlisted in the U.S. Army. She was a 1st Lieutenant Army Corps Nurse during WWII. This is where she met a fellow Minnesotan, William (Bill) Haslett, and fell in love. Florence and Bill married on September 19, 1950, and then settled in Oklahoma City soon after. On September 12, 1951, they welcomed their only child, a son, John. Florence worked at Baptist Medical Hospital as a charge nurse in the Med/Surgical Department until her retirement in 1985. Florence was a woman of Christ, who was committed to her church as well. She was an active member of Our Lord's Lutheran Church for many years. In her earlier years, Florence enjoyed camping/travelling with Bill, their son John, their Grandchildren, and their closest friends. One of their favorite places was on Grand Lake in Oklahoma. Her biggest commitment was to her family. Florence was an amazing, strong, loving woman who was always there for family. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents, Otto and Hulda; her sister, Hazel; and her brother, Clifford. She is lovingly survived by her son, John (wife Lisa); grandchildren, Angela Spenrath-Garrett (husband Jeff), Amy Harold (husband Brian), and Lindsay Reagan. Great-grandchildren include Bethany and Paige Spenrath, Jalen Brown, and Aubrey Harold. Visitation will be Monday, October 8, 2012, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Vondel Smith North. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at Our Lord's Lutheran Church, with Pastor Joel Flugstad officiating. Burial will be at Resurrection Memorial Cemetery, with Military Honors.
