Obituary Condolences

Carl W. Jr., age 87 passed away October 17, 2006 at Midwest City Hospital. Carl was born December 2, 1918 in Altus, OK, to Carl W. and Annye Pearl Abernathy. After graduating from Ozark High School, he attended and graduated from Altus Junior College. After a year at OU, Carl joined the US Marine Corps where he was sent to China and then on to the Philippines. After the fall of Correigodor, he was a Prison of War for 49 months. After retiring from the Marine Corps, Carl returned to Midwest City where he met and married his true love, Pat. They were married 44 years. After Carl retired from Civil Service at Tinker AFB, he was instrumental in forming a POW chapter in Oklahoma City as well as a XPOW State Department. Carl and Pat traveled over the country attending Shrine Functions, 4th Marine functions and XPOW conventions. Carl was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Pat; three sisters; Margret Imel of Midwest City, Nova Hankins of El Dorado, and Faye Gentry of Harrah. The family suggests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Children's Hospital Transportation Fund, c/o India Shrine Center, 3601 N.W. 36th Oklahoma City, OK 73112. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at Arlington Memory Gardens.
