April 30, 1932 - Oct 6, 2012 MUSTANG Charles A. Maher, Jr. (Chuck) passed away October 6, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 25 years, C. Faye (Huffman) Maher; his children, Charles Maher III and wife Elma, Joseph Maher and wife Terry, Diane Maher and husband Bruce Pou, and Thomas Maher and wife Laura; his stepchildren, Dennis Eagan and wife Wendy, Celia Gibson, Candice Vickery and husband Craig; as well as 15 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Chuck was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene (Smith) Maher; parents, Hope M. and Charles A. Maher; and son-in-law, Dale Gibson.Chuck was raised in the New York and Boston areas and graduated from the Massachusetts Maritime Academy in 1953 with a degree in Marine and Electrical Engineering, and Commission as Ensign in the U.S. Naval Reserve.Chuck had a distinguished career as a professional engineer holding 13 U.S. Patents. He worked on significant product development projects with companies such as General Electric and Monsanto. Later in his career, he started his own consulting business and was an authority on automated food preparation, working with most fast-food restaurant chains throughout the United States. Chuck never stopped challenging himself in terms of growing as an engineer right up to his sudden passing. Chuck's greater accomplishment than his career was his dedication to make a better life for all of his family. Chuck was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He would rather give than receive and taught us all a lesson about life. He will be greatly missed.The family will greet friends on Wednesday, 6-8 p.m. at Mercer-Adams.
