FAITH BROWN Obituary
July 2, 1930 - November 22, 2017 OKLAHOMA CITY Given her devotion to the church and the music that she surrounded herself by, Faith Dolores (Zeeuw) Brown was named adroitly.Faith died November 22, 2017 in Oklahoma City. She was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan, the youngest of three daughters of Presbyterian Rev. John Zeeuw and his wife Henrietta. She graduated from Vassar High School in 1948 and began matriculation at the University of Michigan School of Music, where she met her wonderful lifetime partner, Archie McEwen Brown, and both earned Bachelor's degrees in Vocal Music. On June 10, 1950, Faith and Archie married in Vassar and together they celebrated music in their lives, work and worship. First they moved to Lafayette, LA, where sons Daniel and Douglas were born. A move to Summit, NJ, preceded their final stop in Oklahoma City. In each of their chosen homesteads Faith taught music in the local schools while Archie served as professor of voice and, at Oklahoma City University, choral director. Faith was an accomplished musician who played both organ and piano as well as trumpet in her younger days. And as a soprano singing in choirs she was known for her perfect pitch. In addition to her music studies while at the University of Michigan, she was a member of the Delta Gamma Sorority and she and Archie performed with The Madrigal Group. Later she obtained a Master's degree in Music at Oklahoma City University to further her career teaching music.Faith and Archie were considered a harmonious match in all ways, and the partnership they created continued as Faith would play organ for and sing in the choirs that Archie directed, including at St. John's Episcopal Church, First Christian Church and Chapel Hill United Methodist Church. They also collected art and traveled to Europe on several occasions.Married for 52 years, in June 2000 Faith and Archie celebrated joint 50th wedding anniversaries alongside Archie's brother, Hugh Cameron Brown and his wife Randy Brown, of Leland, Michigan. It was a grand occasion comprising numerous musical events and presentations.Although music was the central theme of Faith and Archie's lives together, paramount was their devotion to each other and the rest of the family. Faith was known for her compassion and loyalty and fiercely shielded and heralded the family. During her later years, Faith and her surviving son, Douglas Hugh Brown, were great friends who confronted whatever challenges arose.Among her other survivors are her sisters-in-law Margaret Sears of Sacramento, CA, and Randy Brown of Leland, MI; nieces Laura and Lisa Jones of Des Moines, IA, and Kathryn Potter Sears of Sacramento; and other cousins, nieces and nephews. Faith was predeceased by her husband, her parents, her son Daniel John, and her sisters Lorraine Jones of Des Moines and Dorothy Ellet of Wheat Ridge, CO.A Memorial Mass will be held Tuesday, Dec. 12, at 2 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, 127 NW 7th Street, OKC, followed by burial of ashes at Rose Hill Burial Park, 6001 NW Grand Blvd., OKC.
