March 10, 1953 - July 13, 2012 HILLSBOROUGH, CA James Wilson McCall, of Hillsborough, California, died on July 13, 2012, after a courageous struggle with cancer. Jim was the beloved husband of Jennifer Jordan McCall, devoted father of Peter Lewis Livingston McCall and Andrew James McCall, stepfather of Caroline Debevoise Clark and Hillary Sage Clark, son of Lewis Livingston McCall, Jr. and Dixann Wilson McCall, and brother of Mary Margaret McCall. Jim was knowledgeable in many subjects, from sports, to history, politics, photography, music and Formula 1 racing. Jim was an avid reader, particularly of American history and international relations. Jim was always fun to be with. An entertaining conversationalist, Jim's wit and humor will be deeply missed. His family and friends admired him greatly for his insight and sensitivity, and for his thoughtfulness, modesty and courage. Jim set an example with his intellectual curiosity, dynamic yet gentlemanly manner and high moral character. He was a trusted advisor to many, and a loyal friend. Jim especially enjoyed advising his four children, and was proud that all four of them attended Princeton University. Jim took special pride in his sons and their accomplishments, both in sports and academics. Born in Norman, Oklahoma, March 10, 1953, Jim graduated from the University of Oklahoma in 1974 with a B.A. in Letters with Honors, in History, Philosophy and English. Jim completed his undergraduate degree in five semesters, was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and was a Rhodes Scholar nominee from the State of Oklahoma. Jim earned a J.D. from the University of Oklahoma in 1977, where he was a member of the Law Review. In 1974, Jim attended Oxford University as a Scholarship Resident at University College in Economics. Jim earned his M.B.A. in 1984 from Harvard Business School and served as a member of the Faculty Judicial Review Board. Jim's work experience included McKinsey, Goldman Sachs and Security Pacific/Bank of America Venture Capital Group. Jim joined Intel Corporation in Santa Clara, California, in 1997, where he remained to the present. He became an Assistant Treasurer for Mergers, Acquisitions & Strategic Investments and Managing Director, Digital Enterprise and Digital Home for Intel Capital Corporation, the venture capital arm of Intel. Jim was a talented athlete and sports enthusiast throughout his life. As a 13-year-old, Jim shot even par in a golf tournament; in high school he played football, golf and ran track, holding the State of Oklahoma record for the 220- and 440-yard dash. At the University of Oklahoma, Jim played golf and followed professional baseball. Jim's love of golf stayed with him throughout his life. Jim was a member of the San Francisco Golf Club and Burlingame Country Club, San Francisco; the Merion Golf Club, Ardmore, Pennsylvania; and The Creek Club, Locust Valley, New York. Jim's family and friends loved to play golf with him, not only because of his entertaining and friendly manner, but also because of his shot-making finesse. Jim gently offered tips to those who requested them, and was always a patient teacher. Jim was keenly devoted to his family and to the memory of his predecessors. Jim was a proud member of The Society of the Cincinnati, whose members are descendants of the Officers who served in General George Washington's Revolutionary Army. He belonged to The Society of Colonial Wars, The General Society Sons of the American Revolution, The Order of St. John of Jerusalem, the General Society of the War of 1812, the Order of Indian Wars of the United States, and the Aztec Club of 1847 - Military Society of the Mexican War. Jim's warmth, enthusiasm, and intellect will be greatly missed.A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church of Burlingame, 1500 Easton Drive, Burlingame, CA 94010. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Cancer Center, Stanford University Medical Center, 875 Blake Wilbur Dr, Stanford, CA 94305, Attn: Dr. Sandy Srinivas, for research in kidney cancer.
