Bridges, Sr.April 1, 1934 - January 25, 2013 MUSTANG John Wesley Vernon Bridges, Sr., age 78, died Friday, January 25, 2013 in Select Specialty Hospital, after an extended illness. He was born April 1, 1934 in Oklahoma City, OK to Carl V. and Esther M. (Tolle) Bridges. He grew up in OKC and attended Central High School in OKC. He worked many years for OG&E as a mechanic before retiring in 1994. He also worked in automotive parts sales and had a passion for real estate sales. To many children of all ages he was "Santa Claus", he had been very active in Boy Scouts, receiving the Order of The Arrow and Wood Badge. John organized the first co-ed softball team in the Episcopal Diocese of Oklahoma. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church and The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection and had served as both Jr. and Sr. Warden at St. James Episcopal Church where he was known for his work in evangelism, chairing oblationers and greeters. John was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Harold. Survivors include his wife Gayle of the home, one son John Wesley Vernon Bridges, Jr. and wife Joyce Thurman of Norman, one daughter Linda Gayle Rook and husband Jim Guy of Mustang, two grandchildren Rick Rook and wife April Jackson and Sheila Rook Monson and husband Carlos Monson and three great grandchildren. Also by one brother LeRoy Zelenka and wife Connie of Mustang and one sister Noramarie Brittain and husband Maurice of Kilgore, TX. Visitation will be held from 1pm to 8pm on Friday, February 1, 2013 at McNeil's Mustang Funeral Service, Mustang, OK. Family will greet friends from 5pm until 7:30pm, concluding with a prayer service and closing of the casket from 7:30 until 8pm. A brunch/reception for family and friends will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, February 2, 2013 at The Episcopal Church of The Resurrection, 13112 N. Rockwell, OKC with funeral service following at 12:00pm. Interment will follow in Mustang Cemetery, Mustang, OK under the direction of McNeil's Mustang Funeral Service.
