1924 - 2017 Obituary Condolences
November 5, 1924 - May 13, 2017 EDMOND Lois Jean Leighty Boothe, 92, passed away on May 13, 2017, at Integris Hospice House, surrounded by her family. Lois was born November 5, 1924, near Hazel, North Dakota. She was preceded in death by her soul mate and beloved husband of 64 years, Richard Lee "Dick" Boothe; her parents, Freda Luzell Cassel Ewing and Archie Melvin Leighty; sister, Louise Kelly; and brother, Fred Leighty. Lois graduated from Wesley School of Nursing, Oklahoma City, OK, in May of 1946. Lois and Dick were married in a double wedding ceremony one month after graduation from nursing school at the First Christian Church. She and Dick joined the Catholic Church in 1955 at St. Michael's in Houston, Texas, and made their faith the foundation of their children's lives by providing Catholic education elementary through college. Lois completed her nursing career at the Oklahoma City Veterans Hospital in 1978. In retirement, Lois enjoyed Garden Club, Stamford Hospital Pink Lady Volunteers, painting and her lifelong hobby of reading and current events. She was most passionate about and devoted to her family - remembering and recounting stories about everyone at family gatherings. She was proud of each person in their own right and the grandchildren and great-grandchildren will remember their "Gigi's" love and generosity always. Lois' family and friends will never forget her bright blue eyes, irresistible double dimples and the sweetest and most gentle personality ever known. She is survived by her lifelong best friend, caregiver and beloved daughter, Margaret J. "Maggie" Fourcade and husband Jim, of Edmond, OK; her cherished son, Dr. Richard L. "Rick" Boothe II and wife Toby, of Oklahoma City; brothers, Floyd Leighty, of Tulsa, OK; and Cecil "Bob" Leighty and wife Lori, of Moore, OK; grandchildren, Chris Fourcade, of Norman; Ashley and husband Patrick Minnich, of Ohio; Brooke and husband Danny Henderson, of Oklahoma City; Chelsea and husband Adam Hicks, of Oklahoma City; great-grandchildren, Michael, Ashton, Xavier, and Jolie Minnich, of Ohio; Ethnie, JohnPaul, Chaezell, and Francesca Henderson, of Oklahoma City; and Violet and Amelia Hicks, of Oklahoma City; and cousins, nephews and nieces. Lois was one of God's very special blessings to her family and close friends. We thank Him for sharing her with us these many years. We rejoice with Lois as God welcomes her home into His heavenly kingdom. A rosary will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Smith & Kernke, 14624 N. May Ave., OKC, with a funeral Mass celebrated at 2 p.m. on Thursday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 411 N. Elm St., Guthrie, OK 73044. Lois' family wishes to express a special thank-you to Dr. Robin Gonzales, Dr. Rafael Justiz, Dr. Thy Nguyen, Dr. Niraj Prasad and all of the nurses and aides at St. Anthony Hospital and Choice Hospice for the expert care and wonderful compassion that they lavished on Lois. She loved you all. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Anthony Hospital Foundation in honor of Dr. Gonzales, Dr. Justiz, Dr. Nguyen and Dr. Prasad; Choice Hospice; or Smile Train.
