MARY MURDOCH Obituary
September 9, 1920 - July 6, 2018 YUKON Mary Ellen Murdoch, age 97, passed away July 6, 2018 at the Spanish Cove Pavilion in Yukon, OK. She was born September 9, 1920, in St. Louis, MO. Her parents were Riley M. Waller, M.D., and Muriel Rummell Waller. After the early death of her father in 1936, she moved with her mother to Oklahoma City, to be near other family members. She attended Classen High School and Oklahoma College for Women. Later in her life she was awarded a B.A. Degree from Oklahoma City University, partially based on credits for life experience. She married Thomas J. Murdoch in 1939 and subsequently moved with her husband and son Bruce to San Diego, CA while her husband was in U.S. Navy Training and subsequent service in the Pacific Theater during World War II. After the War, as her husband entered dental school in Kansas City, she worked as a dental assistant, beginning a lifetime of association with the dental profession. Her diplomatic people skills served her well as Dr. Murdoch's office manager and receptionist during his entire career in Okeene, Midwest City, and Oklahoma City. Mary Ellen was outgoing and gregarious, and was always being called upon to lead community organizations. She was the first President of both the Midwest City Junior Service League and the OKC Tennis Club Women's Association. She served on the Boards of the OKC Art Museum Volunteers, the Women's Committee of the OKC Symphony, and the OKC Orchestra League. She was also a Board Member and President of the OKC Town Hall. In the field of dentistry, Mary Ellen was elected Chair of National Health Education for the American Dental Association Auxiliary, for which she served as a guest lecturer. Mary Ellen had many interests in life, including tennis and playing piano. She was an excellent alto singer and was enthusiastic about life. One of her favorite songs was "What a Wonderful World". She was attractive and photogenic and was frequently called upon to model for fashion events. Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband Tom in 2016. She is survived by her son Bruce, his wife Carol, and her grandchildren Vanessa and Robert. Mary Ellen added fun and joy to all she met, and she will be greatly missed. Services will be held at 10:30 am, on Friday, July 13, 2018, at Yanda & Son Funeral Home Chapel, 1500 W. Vandament, Yukon, OK. Online condolences may be signed at: www.yandafuneral.com
