Obituary Condolences

Feb 13, 1926 - Dec 22, 2012 PONCA CITY Patricia Joy Bowker passed away peacefully on December 22, 2012, at her home in Ponca City. Patti was born on February 13, 1926, in Mangum, Oklahoma. As the only child of Fairford & Cressi Lee Dodson, she loved growing up in Mangum; riding her horse, Red; and excelling in dance and piano. After graduating as Salutatorian from Mangum High School, she attended Chickasha Women's College for two years. She then transferred to Oklahoma A&M, where she pledged Kappa Alpha Theta. She treasured the lifelong friendships she made there and helped recruit other young ladies to pledge Theta over the years. She met her husband, Jack Bowker, at a dance for new students. He had just returned from the Marine Corps and fell in love at first sight with Patti. They were married at the First Presbyterian Church in Mangum on November 21, 1948, and recently celebrated their 64th anniversary. Patti and Jack moved to Ponca City, where Jack worked for his dad at the Dodge dealership and Patti taught school at the Ponca Military Academy. In 1950, they had the opportunity to purchase the Ford dealership in Pawnee. Jack was the only salesman and Patti was the bookkeeper. In 1955, they moved to Blackwell and purchased their next Ford dealership. Patti loved the friends they made in Pawnee and Blackwell but knew Jack would never be satisfied until he was back in Ponca City selling new Fords. That opportunity arose in 1960 when they purchased the Ford dealership in Ponca City, which the family still proudly owns today. Patti worked at the dealership all her life until she had a stroke in 1996, which forced her to retire. It was no secret that Patti kept a tight reign on the purse strings and most likely was the driving force behind their success. Patti was a loving and devoted mother to their two children, Sallilee and Cory. She was always there when they got home from school, volunteering as a Cub Scout den mother and Camp Fire leader in addition to working full time. She was also active in Four O'clock Garden Club, PEO Chapter CN, Twentieth Century Club, Ponca City Country Club WGA, OSU Alumni Association and many others. Patti is survived by her husband, Jack Bowker; daughter, Sallilee Bryant and husband Pat; son, Cory Bowker and wife, Lynn; grandchildren, Scott Bryant and wife Blake, Cressilee Bryant, Maggie Bowker and Jackson Bowker. The family would like to give special thanks to Patti's caregivers, Karen, Cassie, Tina, Pam and Jackie. Viewing was held 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Trout Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2012, at the First Presbyterian Church in Ponca City. Memorial donations may be made to Marland Children's Home, 1300 Summers Pl, Ponca City, OK 74604; or First Presbyterian Church, 1505 E Grand Ave, Ponca City, OK 74604.
