SHERRAN BOWLBY Obituary
Apr. 23, 1941 - Mar. 8, 2017 OKLAHOMA CITY Our mother, Sherran Kay Woody Bowlby, age 75, was born April 23, 1941, in Oklahoma City and passed away March 8, 2017. She graduated from Classen High School in 1959 and was an executive for Aetna Insurance for many years. Her passions were her church and her family. She was a lifetime member of Penn Ave. Christian Church, where she was a member of the choir and frequent soloist. She had a beautiful singing voice. Her family was paramount in her life. She was never at a loss for words on how we could be successful and happy if only we would do as she said. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gwynn Beard Lewis and Charles Woody, her beloved grandparents, Guy and Ruth Woody and B.B. and Tena Beard, who raised her as their own. She was additionally preceded in death by Suzi Beard Cummins. Sherran and Suzi grew up as sisters and shared an unwavering bond and devotion towards each other throughout their lives. She is survived by two sons, Reed and Kristy Bowlby, of Atlanta, GA, Mark Bowlby and TR Rathjen, of Rockaway Twp., NJ, and her daughter, Tamara Inmon and April Harvin, of Oklahoma City. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Courtney, Jordan, and Alex, and her great-grandchildren Courtland and Jenna. She was an intellectual, a self-made woman in an era in which it was a rarity, and she carved out a place for herself and her family through some difficult times in a in a male-dominated society. She once described herself as a pushy old broad, and she was that, but she was a great mom and a loving grandmother. We will miss her. A memorial service will be held at OK Cremation and Funeral Home Chapel, 2415 N. Walnut, Oklahoma City, at noon on Monday, March the 13th.
