Obituary Condolences

June 18, 1922 - February 17, 2014 NORMAN Edna (Asper) Elkouri, age 91, passed away Monday February 17, 2014 in Norman, OK. She was born June 18, 1922 in McIntyre, Pennsylvania to Thomas and Anna Asper. Edna graduated with Honors from George Washington University Law School. Afterwards she served on the staff of the Chief Counsel for the Internal Revenue Service. She and her husband Frank collaborated on many projects including the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th editions of "How Arbitration Works." Edna and Frank understood the value of blessing others with the gifts they had been given, leaving a legacy for future generations through student scholarship endowments, including a large gift to the OU School of Law. Frank was quoted once saying Edna has always handled their finances through the years, allowing him "more time for my professional activities, and she definitely deserves much of the credit for whatever I have accomplished professionally and personally." They also established scholarships at St. Vladimir's Orthodox Theological Seminary for students entering the priesthood and other forms of ministry. Edna's generosity was evident to some but largely hidden from view for most. That's the way she always wanted it - she loved being able to do for others and to give others an opportunity to go further - but she always wanted to give without receiving the recognition. Edna and her husband Frank took their stewardship seriously, and as a result many will benefit for years to come. Edna was loved by her family and she loved them in return. Edna was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 56 years, Frank Elkouri; and her brothers, Edmond and Joseph. Edna is survived by her sister-in-law, Lucille Cox of Oklahoma City; her brother-in-law, Jim Elkouri of Palm Springs, California; her two nephews, Richard Cox of Oklahoma City, and Michael Harris and family of Edmond; and her niece, Michele Compton and family of Oklahoma City. Edna and Frank both expressed a desire to offer very warm and heartfelt thanks to a dear friend who became family, Randy Coyne. Randy's help through the years has been invaluable. Rivermont Retirement Community has been home to Edna (and Frank until his passing) for many years. She wished to express her gratitude to the staff for the excellent service and for making her always feel at home and among friends. Family and friends also wish to express thanks to Good Shepherd Hospice for the excellent care they gave to Edna. The Trisagion Prayers of Mercy will be held at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 19, 2014, at the Holy Ascension Orthodox Christian Church, 3350 12th Avenue NE in Norman (one block south of Tecumseh Road). Funeral Services for Edna will begin at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 20, 2014, at the Holy Ascension Orthodox Christian Church, Father Justin McFeeters officiating, with interment to follow at Fairlawn Cemetery, 2700 N. Shartel Ave. in Oklahoma City. Arrangements for Edna and her family were placed in the care of the Vice family at the Havenbrook Funeral Home of Norman.
