Obituary Condolences

Aug 29, 1930 - July 24, 2014 OKLAHOMA CITY Edwin Henry "Ed" Koop was born in Enid, Oklahoma, on August 29, 1930, to Jacob and Lydia Koop. He attended Enid schools and graduated from Enid High School in 1948. After graduation, he attended Oklahoma A&M College (now OSU). He was active in the Baptist Student Union, where he met his future wife, Carol, and graduated from OSU in 1952. After college, he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Ed and Carol married December 22, 1951, and made their home in Oklahoma City for more than 60 years. He was an accountant for Kerr-McGee for 28 years. After retirement, Ed and Carol traveled to Europe and the United Kingdom. Ed enjoyed playing golf with friends, saying, "It was good exercise!" He was a faithful member of The Baptist Temple for over 60 years, where he was a deacon and sang in the choir. Ed volunteered over 5,000 hours at Integris Baptist Hospital and served as President of the auxiliary. Ed was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, Jim. He is survived by Carol, his wife of 62 years; son, Alan and his wife Maki, grandchildren, Jason and Hana, of Powder Springs, GA; daughter, Kim, of Oklahoma City; sister, Luella Burtz and husband Bill, of Marietta, GA; and several nieces and nephews. Special thanks to the Integris Cancer Institute, Dr. Mandanas, nurse Barbara, and the staff in the infusion unit for their compassion and dedication. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, July 29 at 10 a.m. at The Baptist Temple Church, NW 30th and Villa, Oklahoma City.
