Carson August 20, 1915 - October 31, 2011 OKLAHOMA CITY Ruth McWilliams Carson, 96, resident of Oklahoma City, passed away on Monday, October 31, 2011. She and her twin brother, James, were born August 20, 1915, in Judsonia, Arkansas. She grew up in her family home in El Dorado, Ark., and graduated in 1937 from the University of Arkansas where she was a cheerleader and member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She met her husband and lifelong partner, James Amon Carson in Eldorado. They were married on Novermer 1, 1938. She and Jim moved to OKC in 1944 where they celebrated almost 51 years of marriage. They had 3 children, Connie, Mac, and Jo. Ruth led a lifelong adventure in Christian faith and was a devoted member of St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral for the last 63 years. During that time she worked at the Cathedral Bookstore, belonged to several of the Cathedral Guilds, drove for Meals on Wheels, and formed a Women's Prayer Group. Until her death she was active in a weekly Bible Study group. She was also active in many social and civic organizations. She and her husband were founding members of Hillcrest Golf and Country Club, and were avid golfers. She scored a hole-in-one on three different occasions, one being at the Women's State Golf Tournament. Together they owned and operated Sail-O-Rama, a sailboat rental business on the east shore of Lake Hefner, and were members of the OKC Boat Club. She and Jim loved to play duplicate bridge and both attained the level of Life Master. She continued this interest until shortly before she died. She is preceded in death by her parents, William F. and Estelle McWilliams, her husband, James, and her brother, James W. McWilliams. Ruth is survived by her children, Connie Rainbolt of Madison, WI, James M. of OKC, and Jo Campbell of Naples, FL; seven grandchildren, Doug Ogilvie and wife Cheryl, Eric Ogilvie and wife Dana, Jimmy Carson, Jeff Carson, and Chris Carson and wife Jennifer, Michael Scher and wife Shea and April Geiger and partner Ryan McEntee; and 21 great grandchildren, Rachael, Patrick, William, and Rebecca Ogilivie, Bradley, Derek, and Carson Ogilvie, Izabel Carson, Patrick and Connor Carson, Ross, Alaina, Lydia, Elizabeth, Ryan, Kate, and Ethan Scher, Timothy, Katie, Austyn, and Asia Geiger. Ruth was dearly loved by family, friends and neighbors and will be sorely missed. The Memorial Service will be Wed., Nov. 9 at 1 pm at St. Paul's Episcopal Cathedral, 127 NW 7th Street, OKC. In lieu of flowers the family requests contributions be made in her memory to St. Paul's Catherdral.
