DAVID BARNES Obituary
Dec. 17, 1925 - May 1, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY David W. Barnes, Jr., passed away May 1, 2012, at the age of 86. Dave was born December 17, 1925, in Kaufman, TX, to David and Mary Johnston Barnes. Dave served in the Navy during WWII. After leaving the military, he moved to Texas, where he met his wife, Helen Elmore. They married August 31, 1946. They moved to Oklahoma City in 1961, then moved to Wichita, KS, to help start an insurance company, where Dave sold insurance and investments. Dave and Helen moved back to Oklahoma City in 1975, where he sold insurance and later pre-need funerals for Hunter Funeral Home. After retiring from insurance sales, he became a funeral assistant and driver for several Dignity Memorial Funeral Homes, retiring again in 2008. Dave was an active member and Deacon at Council Road Baptist Church, having given his life to Christ at the age of 12. Dave loved watching football and playing golf. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Helen; daughter, Julie and husband Paul Libel of Wichita, KS; one brother, Jerry Barnes (Joan) of Colorado Springs; 3 grandchildren, Ryan Libel (Michael Moss), Nicole Hale (Derek), Kristen Doty (Lane); and 8 great-grandchildren, Abigail, Rebeccah, Natalie, Isabella, and Greyson Hale, Landon, Hudson, and Paxton Doty. Visitation will be at Chapel Hill Funeral Home on NW Expressway Thurs., May 3, from 1-8. Funeral services will be 10 am, Friday, May 4, at Council Road Baptist Church with entombment at Resthaven Gardens of Memory, Wichita, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Council Road Baptist Church.
