Aug 12, 1918 - Dec 30, 2012 LINDSAY Vera Earlene McLellan, of Lindsay, Oklahoma, departed this earthly life on Sunday, December 30, 2012, in Norman, Oklahoma, at age 94. Vera was born to Vera Ethel (Pelfry) Matthews and Marion Albert Matthews on August 12, 1918, in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. She married D.G. McLellan in Elmore City, Oklahoma, on August 5, 1939. Vera had lived in and around Lindsay since 1945. She had been a member of the First Christian Church since 1951. She also held membership in the Daughters of the American Revolution, the National Education Association and the Oklahoma Education Association. Vera was an elementay school teacher, teaching first grade and remedial reading. She taught at Satterwhite from 1939 to 1941, at New Hope Schools from 1945 to 1946, and at Lindsay School from 1959 to 1982. Vera's hobbies included collecting coins and stamps from all over the world. She also loved gardening, sewing and cooking. She always grew a large vegetable garden and shared the bounty of it with her family, friends and neighbors. Vera enjoyed making Christmas candy each year and loved sharing her treats with everyone as well. Mrs. McLellan is survived by her son, Don McLellan, of Fullerton, California; her daughter, Pat Emerson and husband Bob, of Moore, Oklahoma; one sister, Annabell Clawson, of Bethany, Oklahoma; and one brother, Walter Matthews and wife Pat, of Kings Park, New York. Also remaining behind are her grandchildren: Stacey Anderson and husband Steve, of Eagle River, Alaska; Michael McLellan and wife Brandi, of Ontario, Oregon; and Leslie Sanchez, of Moore, Oklahoma; as well as two great-grandchildren: Nickolas Sanchez, of Moore, Oklahoma; and Kate Anderson, of Eagle River, Alaska. Vera was preceded in death by her husband, D.G. McLellan; her parents, Albert and Ethel Matthews; one son, Gary McLellan; her grandparents, Anna and John Pelfry, and Sarah Matthews; and two brothers, Emmett Matthews and Albert Matthews. Funeral services for Mrs. McLellan were held at eleven o'clock a.m. on Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the First Christian Church, located at S.W. 4th Street in Lindsay, Oklahoma, with The Rev. Mr. William H. Bentley, PhD officiating. Interment followed at Green Hill Cemetery in Lindsay, Oklahoma. Services were under the direction of B.G. Boydston Funeral Home of Lindsay, Oklahoma.
