Obituary Condolences

Nov. 23, 1916 - Feb. 22, 2013 TAMPA, FL Eliot Bronson Lyon, age 96, died peacefully in his sleep at home. He was the eldest son of Gay Bronson and Eliot G. Lyon. He is preceded in death by his beloved first wife, Carolyn Root Lyon, beloved daughter, Catherine Lyon Corbett, and brother, A. Cooper Lyon. A long, productive, eventful life was distinguished by his service in WW II and devotion to his family. He was awarded the Bronze Star and served in the Pacific on the island of Tonga where he achieved the rank of Lt. Col. He had a long career in retail that began at the John A. Brown Company of Oklahoma until he retired in 1979 after over 30 years as a senior buyer for Sears Roebuck & Co. His passions included golf, travel and his large family. Post retirement, he traveled the world. He was born in Guthrie, Oklahoma and, like another of the state's favorite sons, Will Rogers, it can be truthfully said of him: "He never met a man he didn't like." He was loved, admired and affectionately regarded by all who knew him. His leaving life, just as his living it, was marked by uncomplaining fortitude during its adversities and good-natured gratitude for its blessings. He is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Winifred C. Lyon and a host of children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will miss him deeply. Interment is at National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
