Rosell, MD August 12, 1939 - January 9, 2014 OKLAHOMA CITY, OK Jose' Armando Rosell, MD passed away January 9, 2014. His children and friends loved to call him "Papi" and he loved being with his family and friends. He was a loving father and caring friend and physician. Jose' was born August 12, 1939 in Santiago de Cuba. He came to the United States seeking freedom but always holding out hope to return to Cuba Libre. While living in Miami, Jose' was honored to receive the Key to the City of Miami, presented by the City, for his leadership and work in the Cuban American Community. Jose' completed his medical education at the University of Oklahoma Medical School, graduating in May 1969. Jose' married Janet Rhea Aboussie on November 23, 1968. Jose' completed a medical internship while serving in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Captain and was honorably discharged in June 1972. Jose' and Janet raised three children while living in San Antonio, Texas, Lawton, Norman and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Jose' was a member of and supported Christ the King Catholic Church and School. He loved his family, friends, medicine, travel, history, art, opera, languages and fine foods. Later in life, Jose' retired to his beloved Miami, Florida to be close to the ocean and his brothers and sisters. In his final years, Jose' loved being surrounded by his eight grandchildren and would spend time with them on the beach, by the pool and watching sunsets. Jose' is survived by Janet Rosell; his daughter Janet Ann Rice, her husband, Jason Richard Rice; his son Armando James Rosell, his wife, Megan McKeithan Rosell; his son Andrew Jose Rosell, his wife Jennifer Kostohryz Rosell; his eight grandchildren; his sister Odett Rosell de Aita and her husband Luis; his sister Lourdes Rosell de Cabrera; his brother Arturo Rosell; his brother Carlos Rosell; his cousin Carmen Esperanza Lopez; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. The funeral will be held at Saint Kieran's Catholic Church, 3605 South Miami Avenue, Miami, on Saturday, January 18, at 12:30 p.m. The Rosell Family gives its sincere gratitude to Dr. Mark Fixley, Dr. Michael Partin, and all the nurses, staff and pastoral care staff at Oklahoma Heart Hospital for their devotion and care given to Jose' in his final days. The Rosell Family also thanks Jose's caregivers, Elaine Johnson and Bernard W. Kairu and the staff at Quail Ridge in Oklahoma City.
