Obituary Condolences

Lillian Maxine Gaston, 84, died Monday, March 17, 2003, in Oklahoma City, following a short illness. Her daughters and grandchildren were with her at the time. The first of five children, Max was born February 10, 1919, in Vici, OK, to Ralph and Lillie Tomberlin. She attended schools in Vici and later Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, OK. In June of 1940, she married Creel Gaston. Creel preceded her in death in 1986. Also preceding her in death were her mother and father, and her brother, Emerson Tomberlin. Prior to moving to Oklahoma City in 1995, Max lived in Sharon, OK for fifty-one years. She is survived by three daughters, Anita Hill of Oklahoma City, Jan Cantrell and husband, Terry of Nampa, Idaho, and Debi Pratt and husband, David of Oklahoma City. She has seven granddaughters, one grandson, and four great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Lucille Dailey of Birmingham, Alabama, and Evelene Spaulding of Joplin, Missouri; one brother, Ralph Tomberlin of Sacramento, California; and numerous friends. Max was a beautiful Christian woman with many many talents. She played the piano for the First United Methodist Church and the Sharon community for fortyone years. She served the Lord in a myriad of ways. She used her gift of encouragement for decades as she ministered to those in need, served in her church, wrote countless letters and cards and took food to hundreds of people over the years. She directed the children's choirs, and worked as a volunteer in several areas. Max will be remembered for her creativity and her many talents. She was always ahead of her time. She will also be remembered for her sweet sweet spirit and her humility. She was a caregiver extraordinaire and an outstanding wife, mother, and grandmother. We will celebrate her life at 2 p.m., on Friday, March 21, at the United Methodist Church in Sharon, Oklahoma, with the Rev. Ray Blakley, Pastor, officiating. Heaven has a wonderful new addition. We will miss her. Interment will be in the North Persimmon Cemetery with the Billings Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
