Ken Thompson

May 29, 1947 - July 16, 2011 WASHINGTON Ken W. Thompson, age 64, of Washington, OK, passed away unexpectedly Saturday, July 16, 2011. Ken was born on May 29, 1947 in Trout Creek, Michigan. He was the oldest of two children born to William Harris Thompson and Gladys Marie (Grabel) Thompson.Ken grew up in Flint, Michigan. At the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Army and proudly served his country for four years. Ken served two years in Germany and two years in Vietnam before he was honorably discharged. After returning home to Michigan, he began working for General Motors as a millwright and continued with his education, receiving numerous college degrees. In 1978 he was transferred to the OKC GM Plant where he retired after 37 years. While living in Oklahoma, he met the love of his life, Rita Yvonne Gallant. They were later married on Ken's birthday, May 29, 1983, at the Westerneer Ballroom in OKC where they also worked part-time. That same year they moved to Washington, OK and began raising a family. Ken and Rita had three children: Doug, Tammy and Robbie. In 2007 Ken retired from General Motors after dedicating 37 years with the company. He was a member of the Tri-City Gun Club, a member of the American Legion Post 1340 in OKC and a faithful member of the Patriot Guard Riders. He was preceded in death by wife, Rita Thompson, on Jan. 9, 2011; sister, Jeannie Marie Thompson. He is survived by three children: son, Doug Thompson of Killeen, TX; 2 daughters: Tammy Pennington of Tuttle, Robbie Haywood of OKC; and 12 grandchildren.Funeral Services are scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Thursday, July 21, 2011, at the Wilson-Little Funeral Home Chapel in Purcell, OK. Burial will follow at the Hillside Cemetery in Purcell.
