Obituary Condolences

Jan 12, 1946 - Nov 15, 2014 OKLAHOMA CITY James L. Marr, 68, passed away on Nov. 15, 2014, after a short illness, with his family by his side. James was born in Dallas, TX on Jan. 12, 1946, the first of five children of Porter and Carmen Marr. James moved with his family to Oklahoma City when he was 12, graduating from Northwest Classen High School in 1964. He earned a BA degree in geography in 1968 from Oklahoma State University and a master's degree in regional and city planning from University of Oklahoma in 1974. James' career began with a number of city planning positions in Oklahoma City and Missouri. He then found sales to be an opportunity to meet and serve others. He sold medical supplies across Oklahoma and later, insurance services to members of the Oklahoma Restaurant Association. He co-founded the Marr Group in 1996 with his daughter, marketing health insurance products across the state. James married Melody in 1968 and raised two children in south Oklahoma City, Tami Marr-Crum and Adam Marr. His restless spirit and enthusiasm for working with others led him to be very active in the community. He enjoyed coaching and refereeing soccer, serving actively in the church, holding officer positions in homeowners' associations, and volunteering with the Citizens Fire Academy and many other organizations. James will best be remembered not for his professional and civic activities, but for the impact of his positive enthusiasm on others. He was an energetic, considerate and positive individual, who lived his life to make others happy. He will always be remembered and appreciated as a loving brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. James was preceded in death by his parents and is survived by his wife and two children, five grandchildren and four siblings. A celebration of James Marr's life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, 2014, at South Lakes Chapel, 4000 S.W. 119th St., Oklahoma City. The family requests donations to OSU Foundation (www.osugiving.com) in honor of James Marr, in lieu of flowers. Please share condolences at vondelsmithmortuary.com vondelsmithmortuary.com
