1947 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
September 24, 1947 - March 8, 2018 DURANT Not a second wasted, no task unfulfilled, no tears left to be spilled. Brad Northcutt was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. He lived, loved, cherished and spent his time with his family. With a smile on his face, and joy in his heart, we knew it was his time to depart. On March 8, 2018, Brad passed on at home surrounded by family and friends. Brad was born Sept. 24, 1947, in Norman, OK to Mayme Jo (Odom) Northcutt and N.B. Northcutt. The family moved to Durant in 1955 and purchased the Corner Drug. After serving in the Army National Guard for six years and graduating pharmacy school, Brad came back to Durant to take over the family business. Some of the highlights of his life included when his daughter, Ashlee, took over the store and spending time in the deer woods with his son, Craig. Brad was active in the community, serving on the planning and zoning commission, the city council and as Mayor of Durant. He was instrumental in the planning and creation of Lake Durant. One of Brad's talents was poetry, every Valentine's Day he wrote a poem for Joyce. One of his best is listed below. "Here Come the Grandkids" Parents are leaving, taking a day. Here comes the grandkids, an overnight stay. Dancing thru doorway. So happy and gay. Baggage takes flight, let's go play. Dash to doll-room, quick look and smile. Empty each shelf, make a big pile. Scatter the pennies and dishes too. Short while later, what can we do. Spaghetti for supper, oops the floor. Don't worry grandma, get me some more. Splash in bathroom, not only the tub. All is wet, rub a dub dub. Finally dry, pajamas the need. Race for books, ready to read. Hey lets watch a movie, dump all the books. Time for a fight while popcorn cooks. Early to bed, early to rise. Not tonight Paw Paw cries. Mid morning arrives without a peep Under the covers fast asleep. So hungry we're starving, we're ready to eat. We want McDonald's with a playground treat. Back home after lunch so full. Get out the wagon, give us a pull. Look whose coming its Mom and Dad. Glad to be home, good times they had. Goodbye everybody, they're on the way. Plans all made, another stay. For Grandma and PawPaw quite a day. Love the grandkids in every way. Bonds of a family all do share. Believe in each other, always care. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joyce; his son, Craig Northcutt, of Durant; his daughter, Ashlee Morrison and husband Clint, of Durant; grandchildren, Mia Smith, Masyn Northcutt, Grace and Kate Morrison; sister, Nathalia and husband Doug Flowers; brothers, Roger and wife Diane Northcutt and Mark Northcutt; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, N.B. and Mayme; and nephew, Brady Rudolf. Family hour will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, March 14 at Holmes-Coffey-Murray Funeral Home in Durant. A private service will be held at a later date in Oklahoma City.
