Obituary Condolences

April 10, 1946 - October 30, 2014 OKLAHOMA CITY Leona "Michele" Wells Krug McCoy was born on April 10, 1946, to William Wellington Wells and Bessie Beryl Russell Wells in Oklahoma City, OK. She died peacefully at home on October 30, 2014, at the age of 68. After graduating from Northwest Classen High School in 1964, Michele entered the work force and performed a variety of administrative and bookkeeping jobs for several years. After the downturn in the Oklahoma economy during the early 1980s, she made the transition from lifelong Sooner fan to full-time college student at the University of Oklahoma. During her senior year at OU, Michele was in the top 10 percent of her class and invited to join the International Honor Society Beta Gamma Sigma for outstanding academic achievements by business students. She graduated in 1986 with a bachelor's of accounting with special distinction. After graduation, Michele joined the Oklahoma City office of the national accounting firm Deloitte, Haskins & Sells as an auditor. National accounting firms virtually never hire nontraditional students, but an exception was made for Michele. After a few years, Michele joined the regional accounting firm Regier, Carr & Monroe, where she specialized in financial services sector audits. Michele had always expressed an interest in regulated industries and, after several years in public accounting, was able to obtain a position with the Public Utilities Division of the Oklahoma Corporation Commission, where she spent several enjoyable years working with an extremely talented and productive group of individuals. As a CPA, Michele was a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. She was a member of the Oklahoma Society of CPAs and she chaired their Liaison with Educational Institutions Committee. Michele was very talented in many areas. One of her most useful and appreciated skills was her outstanding ability at cooking and hosting gatherings of friends. After nearly 20 years as friends and companions, Michele married Joe McCoy in 1996 and shared the rest of her life with Joe. Michele was extremely and justifiably proud of her two sons, Todd Thomas and Christopher Krug. Michele had significant health issues later in life and was lovingly and professionally cared for by Kathylene Goldson, who became her very good friend. She is survived by her husband, Joe; her oldest son, Todd, and his fiancee, Denise; and younger son, Christopher, and his wife, Kirstin; all of Oklahoma City. Michele was an exceptional wife, mother and friend and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Michele's memorial service will be Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at 10 a.m. The service will be in the chapel at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home, 3925 North Asbury Avenue, Bethany, OK 73008.
