Obituary Condolences

Sept. 25, 1920 - Nov. 6, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Otto F. Schmidt, having lived a full 92 years, passed from earthly life on November 6, 2012 after a short illness. "Hap" lived all of his life in Oklahoma City, was a graduate of Central High School and a member of the "greatest generation," serving with the Navy during WWII on the destroyer Robinson. He joined the Oklahoma City Fire Department on Veterans Day 1947 and rose to the rank of District Fire Chief prior to his retirement in 1977, loving every day that he served. Otto was a real "Mr. Fixit" and thoroughly enjoyed tinkering in his small shop even as failing vision made it progressively more difficult. A great source of pleasure was watching football, OU and the Dallas Cowboys being particular favorites, NASCAR, and Judge Judy on television. Otto's greatest accomplishments were in the way he provided for his family and the standards of honesty and integrity that he modeled throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Norma, last February and sadly, too early, by his second son Bob who also gave him one of his greatest sources of pride, granddaughter Sara. He is survived by eldest son James. Graveside services will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Saturday, November 10, at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Oklahoma City.
