1960 - 2018 Obituary Condolences
Aug. 18, 1960 - Dec. 28, 2018Paul Keith Brashears ? a dreamer, a wanderer, a BBQ chef, a golfer, a knuckleball thrower, a jokester, a pool player, a musician with lots of fans, a friend, and a teller of tales leaving you to determine the line between fact and fiction. Paul's story began in Prague, OK Aug. 18, 1960, when he was born into the family of Wayne "Pete" and Rosemary Brashears and sisters, Beverly and Becky. He grew up in Lincoln County as a member of the first kindergarten class in Prague and a member of the Stroud High graduating Class of 1978. He was also educated at Northeastern State University (where he spent most of his class time on the river) and at Oklahoma State University (where he spent most of his study time on the Strip). He was a Pied Piper among his friends. One remarked, "Paul may not have always had the best ideas, but they were certainly always the most fun." Throughout his life, Paul's idea of a good time included music. Bev took him to his first concert, Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show, in the seventies. His mom took him to his first Jerry Jeff Walker concert in 1978. He attended his 135th and final JJW show in Aug. of 2016 with his sisters and brother-in-law, Gary Messec, and friend, Joe Tripp. The same crew went to see Dale Watson on Paul's birthday in 2017. It was his last show. Paul loved entertaining his friends and family with his guitar and on the piano. He also loved entertaining people with his stories. He was armed with a mastery of words and a quick wit. He had countless stories, many of which he himself was the star. He often began a story truthfully, "I'm going to make a short story long." He relished reading the newspaper as well as historical books and enjoyed sharing that information word for word. Many nurses and doctors were educated on topics ranging from Oklahoma outlaws to JFK and LBJ to the Crash at Crush, and even Bigfoot. There is no condensed version of Paul's life that would do him justice, but those that knew him undoubtedly have their own tales of Paul whose story on Earth ended much too soon, Dec. 28, 2018. Memorial pending.
