McCans Feb. 2, 1938 - Jan. 10, 2018William Eugene McCans Jr. passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, in Fort Worth. Mass of Christian Burial is Saturday, Jan. 20, 2018, at 1p.m. with Rosary at 12:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wichita Falls, TX. Reception will follow at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 2250 Turtle Creek Road, Wichita Falls, TX 76309. Burial will be at a later date in Ruidoso, NM. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please make donations to your local food bank or your local Saint Vincent DePaul Society. Bill was born Feb. 2, 1938, in Fletcher, OK to William Eugene McCans Sr. and June Marie Nickels. He served in the United States Air Force 1956-1959. Bill married Marjorie Sue Bailey Feb. 16, 1960, in Midland, TX. Bill and Sue opened their first Sonic on Dec. 3, 1973, and grew the business until it included Sonic Drive-Ins in six states. Bill won the Troy Smith Award in Aug. of 2002, the highest, most prestigious award for any Sonic franchisee. He was loyal and caring for all of his Sonic partners and believed that to serve and care for others was the way to success. He also had a passion for Quarter Horse racing, owning horses and competing for the All American Futurity in Ruidoso, NM. Bill and Sue were longtime fans and season ticket holders for the Dallas Mavericks. He loved sharing his passion for basketball with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. One of his favorite music lines, "Put me in Coach, I am ready to Play"! Bill was predeceased by his parents; daughter, Suzanne McCans Hergott; and his sister, Sue Marie McTaggart. Survivors: wife, Marjorie Sue McCans; children, Joanne Bell, William Eugene McCans III, and Steven Arthur McCans and wife Stacie; sisters, Patricia Ann Currie and husband Tom and Nancy Lee Clark and husband Mike; his grandchildren, Michael McCans and wife Jennifer, Chrystal Mercado and husband Cesar, Kelly Bell, Tara Martin and husband Chase, Jae Ellen Clewell, Jake Archer, Hunter McCans, Bailey McCans, Christian Hergott, and Mandy Taylor McCans; and great- grandchildren, Michael William Spencer, Kiersten McCans, Olivia Martin, Cesar Mercado, and Oliver Martin. Serving as Honorary Pallbearers: Danny Johnson, Bobby Merritt, Joe Moore, Brooks Wright, Gary Kinslow, Darrell Rogers, and Dan Winters.
