Alan Synar Obituary
Apr. 14, 1955 - Nov. 5, 2011 EDMOND The Honorable Alan Edmond Synar, of Edmond, Oklahoma 56, died after a short illness on November 5, 2011. He was born April 14, 1955 in Memphis, TN to Edmond and Virginia Synar, moving with his family to Muskogee, Oklahoma in 1963. He graduated from Muskogee High School in 1973. He attended the University of Oklahoma, where he received the Outstanding Senior Man Award and was a proud member of Beta Theta Phi Fraternity. He received his B.B.A. in Accounting in 1976 and his Juris Doctorate, in 1979. He was appointed Associate Municipal Judge for the City of Edmond in 1988 and became the Presiding Judge in 1993, where he remained until his death. Under his leadership, the Edmond court developed and implemented the first municipal juvenile court in the State of Oklahoma. This format was recognized as a model for juvenile courts nationally. When not judging, he practiced law at the Edmond Law Center with an emphasis in the areas of construction law, telecommunications, commercial litigation, contract litigation, professional liability law, employment law, family law, probate and estate planning. He was a member of the American and Oklahoma Bar Associations and the President of the Oklahoma Municipal Judges Association in 1993 and 2011. He married Lisa Bassett on June 25, 1977 and they shared 34 years together. Together, they enjoyed cooking and entertaining their friends. He enjoyed coaching his son's baseball team and watching his daughter and son perform through leadership and the arts. He is survived by his wife Lisa of the home, daughter Lauren Synar of New York City, son Clifford Synar of Norman, his father Edmond, sister Edwyna, niece Nikki and grand niece Myriah, all of Muskogee and hundreds of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother Virginia and brother Congressmen Mike Synar. Services will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, November 12, at St. Lukes United Methodist Church, Oklahoma City. Burial will be at the Rose Hill Cemetery following the service. Pallbearers are Jay Buxton, Kent Chapin, Peter Hann, David Mercer, Tim Strange, Clayton Taylor, Robert Utecht. Honorary pallbearers include Ken Hibbard, Randy Willis, Ryan Blakemore, Blake Palmer, Mac Mitchell, Mike Allman, Doug Chancellor, Martin Flusche and Tom Walsh.
